Photography is one of the most powerful tools to change the perception of the people. The photos that we take and we see are incredibly powerful, and they play a huge role in shaping how we see the world and the people around us. Every day, we constantly see photos of people—in social media, on websites, on television, in advertisements, in print, and in our daily environment. In many ways, the photos we see in the media have created our culture for us, and have defined the standards of who and what is supposedly good, normal, and valuable. However, the media is not as inclusive of everyone as it could be due to biases, prejudices, and stereotypes that have been passed down for generations. Because of this, the images we consume are not an accurate depiction of reality. Thus, it can be said that images that are not representative of everyone and that preserve the status quo are problematic because…

Objectives

Photography is one of the most powerful tools to change the perception of the people. The photos that we take
and we see are incredibly powerful, and they play a huge role in shaping how we see the world and the people
around us. Every day, we constantly see photos of people—in social media, on websites, on television, in
advertisements, in print, and in our daily environment.
In many ways, the photos we see in the media have created our culture for us, and have defined the standards of
who and what is supposedly good, normal, and valuable. However, the media is not as inclusive of everyone as it
could be due to biases, prejudices, and stereotypes that have been passed down for generations. Because of
this, the images we consume are not an accurate depiction of reality. Thus, it can be said that images that are not
representative of everyone and that preserve the status quo are problematic because they perpetuate the
inequalities of society. They can negatively affect how we see ourselves and our perceived worth if we don’t fit
into the narrow “ideal” demographic that has been created for us.
To change that, making people aware about these stereotypes and involving young people who are the main
people who uses the social media post to create a new narrative which do not exclude but include the people who
does not fit into the defined standarts or the “ideal” demographic would make a create change. Thus, we would
like to work with young people within this youth exchange to promote the inclusive photography and qualifying
young people to use it as a tool will effectuate a huge change.
Stories of Inclusion – Photography as a Tool for Inclusion is a project to change the image of photography
mainstreamed among young people and create an awareness with the actions of young people in our local area
and in participating countries. During the development of the project, we have learnt our previous experiences as
an organisation; music, art and now, we would like to use the knowledge through the tool as a photography.
The ”ideal” image of the people and demographic “ideal” is one of the treats towards to the diversity that we live in
and we promote in EU and Spain. Thus, We choose the name of the project as “Stories of Inclusion” to address
the images promoted in the media and the make the young people aware about the power of visual storytelling
for inclusion of people who are already excluded by not being fit into the “ideal” demographic that the media and
advertisement industry gives us. The project directly works with young people who are interested in the
photography though not aware about the issues as we explained and their damages.
We as well create these images by ourselves everyday in social media platforms. Instagram is the biggest
example of one, each day 95 million photos are uploaded by random people from all around the world. Each of
these photos tries to be the ideal that the media industry puts in front of us. Thus, the young people who are not
fitting the ideal, they withdraw from social media, they feel something is wrong about them in very basic sense of
our theme within this project.
With the project we aim to develop skills of young people concerning the visual storytelling and make them
changemakers of their own communities to promote the diversity in media and in their daily life through the
photos that they make. Thus, during the project, all the participants will embed with the local community which will
create a vibrant environment for both the participants and our local community members and will promote the
diversity from different ages, different cultures and any different background.

In the end of the project, we will have exhibition and country groups will be mixed to work in the topics focusing
on the diversity and they will choose photos previously that they took before joining the project. The main idea of
the project, to initiate a change on the image of the “ideal” that the society promotes and qualifying the young
people regards to photography.
The specific objectives of the project:
-To develop awareness on young people with the photography and the story telling through the photography
-To create an awareness about the positiveness of the diversity and contributing to the shifting the paradigm of
“ideal” the exists to the real images
– To develop skills of young people on photography and visual story-telling
– To qualify young people as visual story tellers to promote the diversity in their own countries and become
changemakers to act towards to the issues of images
-To create a local impact in Alcala la Real and making the local community aware about the diversity issues
through the photo exhibition and local set of activities

Activities
The project activity will be implemented between 1-9 April 2023 with 40 participants ( 5 participants + 1 leader )
from 6 different countries ( Italy, Portugal, Iceland, Greece, Serbia,Spain ) in Alcala la Real as Youth Exchange.
The methodology to be used within the scope of the project will be based on non-formal education methods and
activities will be carried out in a way that participants will learn from each other. In the process, leaders will play
the role of facilitators, and our team will provide both technical and logistical support to participants and leaders.
The methods to be applied during the will be based on open space activities, group work, researches and visual
presentations.
The aims of the activity :
1.To qualify young people with the tools for promoting the social inclusion by making them understanding the
usage of photography and the visual story telling results with exclusion.
2. To share youth practices, experiences and inter-religious and intercultural practices.
3. To create awareness on the participants about the use of photography that contribute to the development of
intercultural dialogue.
4. To create awareness on the participants about the social inclusion issues in Europe
5. To develop the skills of the participants in the field of youth and photography and demonstrate its use in the
field of social sciences

As the project focuses on increasing awareness of young people in the field of inclusion, the participants will work
on together with the local youth to develop new stories from the photos gathered during the photowalk that they
did through the day. They will reflect the issues that they have realised during the preparation phase in their own
countries and use this knowledge during the activity. In that way, it will increase their participation as well as their
motivation to create new work and promote the usage of photography in youth work as well as among the young
people as a tool for creativity and culture.
– Have an experience on photography or the photo sharing-platforms ( Instagram, Flickr, Deviantart etc. )
– Has tendency to take initiative and motivation to work with photography for promoting inclusion
– Sensitive to the social issues
– Has a basic level of English ( A2 – B1 )
– Has economical / educational or geographical obstacles ( young people with fewer opportunities ) – Half of the
group in each participating country

Impact
The project will increase the skills of young people who are socially precarious in the society will become
empowered and they will become aware about the issues that surround them. In that way, the project will
empower the young people and give them an opportunity to change the image of the ideal that we have in our
communities by using the photography as a tool.
The youth exchange activity will create an impact on the young people involved, through their multiplication,
overall population that they can see in their surroundings. The youth exchange activity will give them a ground
knowledge about how to interpret the images and how to tell a story with the images that they can do not only by
doing activities within their organisations but they can use that in their daily life as users of social media, making
presentations and make a change in their everyday life upon the people they are with. Thus, the young people
will benefit from the project directly not only the implementation period but after the implementation period as well.
Moreover, we will work with the participants to develop new activities within Erasmus+ that they involve in
different mobilities and engage with the other activities taking place within the Erasmus+ programme. On the
other hand, the project will benefit the young participants by making them aware of the issues and use of
photography and tell the stories of people who are excluded in the communities to create an awareness and
make advocacy towards to the issue of exclusion. The project will foster intercultural dialogue and intercultural
awareness among the young participants. As they will be exposed to the international environment with people
from different cultures. The project will increase their cultural expression skills and develop a positive attitude
towards to cultural differences.
Photo Walk activity will be done in the local community and the participants will directly work with the local
community, listen their stories and make them a documentation about their daily lives. Thus, they will become
more familiar of the Spanish culture and their knowledge towards to Spain will increase and they will develop
positive attitudes about our country. In addition to that, the young people in our local will benefit as well directly
from this activity by engaging with their peers from different countries.
In the last day, the participants will implement an exhibition that will be presented in the open area with the
pictures that they have taken during the youth exchange activity. With that activity, the participants will gain skills
to implement exhibition in their own communities which will help them to engage with their own community
through the photography and will create a long-lasting impact.
On the other hand, Participants will develop their knowledge and skills concerning the issue of exclusion and the
project will help them to develop their skills by using the photography to solve these issues in their own
communities. They will become more aware about the issues of the “images” results with the “exclusion” of
people who are oppressed and already excluded from the communities. In that way, they will realise the issue
that each of these people are subject to the inclusion due to the images that photos are promoting and they will
develop a sense of awareness towards to the prevention of this issue. In that way, the project will contribute their
involvement to social life in a positive manner. The participants will develop as well foreign language skills as they
will communicate in English rather than their own country language during the activity which will have a lasting

In addition to that, the participants’ skills will increase concerning the development of the methodologies with
photography as they will engage with the other young people who are interested on photography and it will
increase their knowledge. The project will help the young people with fewer opportunities as they will involve
directly in the project through the implementation period and it will help them to initiate new activities in their own
communities to address the issues and promote the inclusion in their own communities by using the tool of
photography. On the other hand, the project will contribute to the inclusion of young people with fewer
opportunities and inclusion of marginalised young people by increasing awareness on inclusion of these young
people who are oppressed, body shamed, excluded due to their differences from the community or even bullied
through out their schooling or even their workplace. Moreover, the young participants will be qualified as
changemakers of inclusion to promote inclusion in their own communities through the usage of art.
