About the project

Every day most of us consume plastic bags, bottles and other plastic objects, dispersing waste into the environment which can become toxic and create serious consequences for our planet. The European Union is now turning its attention to the 10 disposable plastic products and fishing gear which together represent 70% of marine litter in Europe. Following the wave of our previous Erasmus + Project, the idea of this project comes from the need of our Informal Group of young people and partner organizations that are experiencing the impact of the use of plastic in our society, we want to carry out a second project to continue working on this issue, but this time focusing on plastic bags and disposable plastic bottles. Objectives

Every day most of us consume plastic bags, bottles and other plastic objects, dispersing waste into the
environment which can become toxic and create serious consequences for our planet. The European Union is
now turning its attention to the 10 disposable plastic products and fishing gear which together represent 70% of
marine litter in Europe.
Following the wave of our previous Erasmus + Project, the idea of this project comes from the need of our
Informal Group of young people and partner organizations that are experiencing the impact of the use of plastic in
our society, we want to carry out a second project to continue working on this issue, but this time focusing on
plastic bags and disposable plastic bottles.
The added value of our project (PlasticArts) compared to the previous one (DIY, Plastic Goodbye), to which it is
connected, is educating young people on the use of disposable plastic by informing them about the damage
connected by its dispersion on our planet. We will focus on its recycling possibilities with creative methods using
bags and bottles. In addition, we will inform young participants about the rules of the European Commission will
adopt on the use of disposable plastic.
The idea came from Carmine (Explore the World, Italy) and Patrica (Asociatia “Tineret pentru Dezvoltare
Durabila”, Romania) participating in the “DIY, Plastic Goodbye” project, when they met in the Youth Exchange
last May. Together, they thought of creating a second project that deepened the idea and could create an even
bigger impact! We other active members of the informal group have accepted the idea, as we already had in mind
to carry on this issue by creating more and more projects and involving more and more people, especially young
people.
We thought about this Youth Exchange to meet the primary need to involve our local community, so that all the
different groups of people will be positively influenced. Our Informal Group wants to make a difference and
increase awareness of environmental issues and the consequences of using plastic.
The Youth Exchange is the most important and main activity that will be carried out during this project. We want
to continue with this project and with this idea because through non-formal education, experience and simulation

and practical activities and creativity, we want to influence the young participants of the Youth
Exchange, making them understand the impact of the use of plastic in the world. Participants and partners, as
well as people who will be directly and indirectly involved in the project, will understand the importance of
cooperation, the use of creativity and will be more aware of the environment. The main objective of our project is
to reduce the use of plastic bags and bottles, continuing our work started with our previous “DIY, Plastic
Goodbye” project, given the success of this project and the positive impact that we managed to produce.
The young participants will experience the importance of the European Erasmus + Program, and will see how
much the European Union supports young people’s initiatives for education and environmental protection. The
people we will be in contact with during the project will represent a small part of the companies they could meet
during their life.
We young people from the informal “Explore the World” group care about environmental issues, but at the same
time we are committed to creating awareness of global objectives: humanitarianism, volunteering, tolerance.

One of the objectives is of this project is to carry on our collaborations with our local and international partners. In
addition, our informal team is in the process of creating a voluntary association. We are registering formally, by
the end of the month we will have a venue for our meetings and our work. Our goal is also to create a meeting
point for the young people of our local community in Puglia.
The objectives of this project and the learning objectives we aim to achieve are:
– activate young people to protect the environment;
– create awareness of the damage caused by the use of plastic bottles, seeking solutions for this problem;
– promoting creativity as a tool for environmental protection;
– improve the level of young people in creative skills;
– sensitize young people on intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity;
– increase the level of key competences of the Youthpass certified young people;
– promoting intercultural learning and global goals through non-formal education;
Activities
The project is made up of 5 phases, and they are:
1. Preparation
The preparatory phase includes activities aimed at preparing the Youth Exchange when the project is approved.
2. Exchange of young people
“PlasticArt” Youth Exchange: 6 days of activity 2 travel days, in which 6 participants from each participating nation
(Romania, Poland, Spain, Turkey and Italy) 3 Italian participants (Staff) will meet in Altamura to carry out the
activities they carry out organized.
In particular, the methodologies will be based on experiential learning, group work, active participation, theoretical
and practical inputs, team / group building activities, role-playing games, simulations, discussions, icebreakers,
energizers, participatory and theater improvement techniques , outdoor activities, etc. More importantly,
participants will acquire practical and creative skills in recycling and reusing plastic.
The methods and activities are described in detail in the Timetable (excel file).
The common aspect of Youth Exchange activities will be the beginning and end of each day. The day will begin
with an energizer / ice-breaker, a general introduction to the day, and will conclude with a final debriefing and final
evaluation.

– The activities are planned according to objectives and are aimed at specific target groups;

These methodologies chosen by us are participatory and used in non-formal education and are closely linked to
the objectives that are intended to be achieved through this project – an initiative focused on the inclusion of
young people with fewer opportunities, will develop learning tools other than activities that aim to educate for
European citizenship.

The project will be closed with the final report to be submitted to the National Youth Agency and the European
Commission. One of the most important tools that we will consider for our conclusions is the survey provided by
the MT portal, to which the leaders of the group participating in the Youth Exchange respond.

Impact
In our project, our participants will demolish their stereotypes, their prejudices and their racist behaviors. At the
same time, they will acquire skills to find solutions for the environment and will be competent to conduct activities
that can be created in this context and to design applications that can be created in this theme.
In addition, our participants will develop a common denominator in order to solve an international problem and
work in this field and will be able to work in intercultural teams. They will also be aware of the recycling systems in
their countries and will be more sensitive and informed on these topics. They will acquire knowledge on the EU
initiative and on the commitments made by the European strategy on the problem of harmful plastic waste
through legislative action, which was welcomed by the Parliament and the European Council, by citizens and
stakeholders.
They will also be able to achieve the following skills corresponding to the 8 key competences recognized by the
Youthpass and the Erasmus+ program:
– Learn new concepts, approaches and terminologies of other languages, learn about different cultures;
– Be more open to people from different countries and cultures;
– Learn more about their native language by teaching their language to others;
– Learn different ways to present the project, create posters or flyers to promote or inform about the project,
meetings and presentations for the local population;
– Improve communication with others, listen actively, express yourself, give words to your thoughts and feelings;
– Testify the meaning of humanitarianism, voluntary work and motivational to be more active in the field of youth
and society – civilian field;
– strengthen their interest in ecology and support volunteering at the highest possible level;
When our participants return to their homes at the end of the project, they will be able to develop a project for a
social problem in their environment and at the same time translate it into an initiative, contributing to the active
role of young people in society and especially in local communities. . At the same time, our participants will
develop on intercultural skills because they will work in an intercultural team.
Participants will develop their knowledge and skills in the field of the environment and develop these skills to
contribute to the solution of plastic pollution, such as creating an awareness campaign. Our participants will
develop in the right attitudes to take actions to solve ecological problems and raise public awareness in their local
communities. This impact needs to be considered to a greater extent.

By taking part in the Youth Exchange our participants will learn about Erasmus + and will be able to submit
projects to the Erasmus + Program. This will increase the visibility of the program and contribute to the personal
and social development of our participants.
The target group of our project are young people aged between 14 and 30 who want to develop their attitudes
towards social problems and the use of creative methods as a tool to solve them.
First, participants will understand how fundamental it is to solve environmental problems and contribute in their
daily lives to improve the problem of plastic pollution. We will emphasize the importance of European unity and
support. The idea that young people don’t care about their geographical difficulties, economic difficulties and
stereotypes and can achieve their goals.
At European and global level, by promoting the results of Erasmus programs, people will learn about Erasmus +
and other European programs and see what they have to offer and how important it is to visit new places and
learn about other cultures and civilizations and learn a foreign language. At all levels we can break stereotypes
and prejudices and stop racist behavior. The project will increase awareness regarding European projects. More
and more people will know the projects and possibilities of young people.
At local, regional and national level, people will discover the environment, ecological issues, recyclability systems
in Europe and around the world, become familiar with creative methods and know the current situation today.
The topic of the project is not something that affects only Italian people, so the effect will be more European and
international.
Furthermore, thanks to our promotion and dissemination of the results of the projects, a greater number of people
will not only be aware of the topic of the Environment, but will also be able to learn more about European
projects, the Erasmus + program and European support for young people.
